The Firefly Companion's Guild

Building community and heart into the Firefly 'verse

Just want everyone to know that I am extremely upset at Radclyffe using the term 'Wo men Dakai'. It is my term and concept and undiplomatic.

Wow. I can see you're dealing with as much plagiarism as I am here at the end of the semester...

Hugs Duke, I just wish they could generate their own Intellectual Property.. then I could kick start my 'admiring diversity' mode

Having been bullied by these people and having had my acolytes been bullied by them I don't think we should go anywhere near them. They don't respect us and have had many chances to do so or apologise for labelling us as a Guild that manipulates and turns people into sex slaves. However... feel free, just steel yourself.

*hugs Flynt and smiles* We can save energy for having a fab time ourselves by not doing any devising ^^ Mostly I just mute people who stop making sense - life is too short. I am just growing confident enough to let myself vent on my status... ;)

Wait, I'm NOT a sex slave?  I want my Lindens back!  <rummages through pockets looking for a crumpled receipt>

Seriously, though, I think you have the right attitude. As I might have mentioned, I have seen exactly the same phenomenon growing up, in which a spiritual-philosophical community based on a popular property (in this case the works of Aleister Crowley, not Firefly) repeatedly had its legitimacy challenged by disgruntled ex-members and the mentally unhinged. Better to just ignore them; though news may get to you through your channels; I think most of us in the Guild are blissfully unaware.

*giggles* It is true what you say, ignoring people who are negative is always the best way to go. However these people are not challenging my legitimacy.. rather they are trying to infiltrate us by copying (one of our members was actually going to DJ for them which would have supported that plan quite nicely - they have been asked not to and have given apologies).

In this internet world which is made up of mind people's attitudes matter a little bit more than in RL. People don't 'vote with their feet' in quite the same way.. they can teleport to a completely new context within a moment. Also we have vulnerable people in our Guild who have joined for community and to feel loved. I have had experience of these people manipulating that as they are not kind or clever enough to consider other people's boundaries (ie the fact I don't like them copying me). This filters into their other relationships and our members have been emotionally yanked around by them.

The 'just get along and place nice' has been a vehicle for abuse and rape, especially for women, over and over again. As someone helping people learn to identify, maintain and even cherish their current boundaries I refuse to buy into this line, even a little bit. Especially as our Guild contains far more real women (no offence meant to anyone reading this who has gender issues) some of whom have emotional issues or have been rape victims.

These 'other' Companions are like the Yolandas and Saffrons of our 'Verse - we cannot know what they will do next;

Zoë: [about Saffron and her plan] But Inara ain't wrong. She can't be trusted.

So much of what they do is piggybacking on the work you and others have done here, and the rest is so out of true to Whedon's creation and that work it beggars belief. I feel for my elder siblings who have had emotional ties within that group's membership. I know it's a long and interwoven history. I just cannot feel much more than protective anger about it right now. I want them to have fun with *their own stuff*. They can bloody well leave ours alone.

Girls gotta kick back when they can sense themselves being hemmed in ^^ *hugs lysana*
