The Firefly Companion's Guild

Building community and heart into the Firefly 'verse

As we approach the end of another term, i find myself looking back once more on what has transpired during my time with the Guild.  It has now been 15 months since i joined, and during that time i have experienced a great deal of personal growth, have met many whom i have grown to love and cherish, and most importantly have found a home and family.

i recall when i first joined, having no idea what the Guild was and thinking i was applying for an Eisa RP group.  There were three people who had a big influence on me during that time:  Priestess Hilary, who notified me of my acceptance, and made me immediately feel welcome;  my Jiejie Astra, who took the time to explain the Guild to me and set me on my path; and Priestess Flynt, who was our House Phoenix at Jichiren House at that time, and who set an example for me and whom i have looked up to as a mentor ever since ("i want to be just like her when i grow up!"). There have been many others who have also made my time in the Guild special as well as time has passed.

Over time, as i have progressed through my Peacock and Flamingo stages, i have experienced the joy of having my own meimeis assigned to me, and the sadness in seeing many of them wander off, either by being snatched away by RL, or finding they were not ready for the commitment involved, or simply deciding the Guild was not what they were seeking.  i hold out hope that some will eventually return.  Having said that, i am very proud of my meimei mew, who has not only been very involved herself, but has also worked hard to get others interested in the Guild as well.

This term, i find myself in the position of Phoenix acolyte, having new experiences and entering a new level of training. It is the most rewarding term i have experienced in many ways.  i have gained a great deal of respect for those who have achieved Registered Companion status.  The journey is a long one.  Yet many things remain the same; i continue to teach classes, and i have recently been granted two new acolytes, whom i hope to be able to guide to an enjoyment of the Guild experience.

i have been thrilled to see, after a long respite, the recent elevation of three dear friends to Registered Companion:  my Jiejie Astra, the lovely Kitty, and Gege Duke, who was a Hummingbird at Jichiren when i joined.

To those in the upper levels of the Guild, i would urge you to take an active interest in our newest members. Take some time to maybe send an IM and chat with them a bit, even if they are not part of your own House.  i feel these kinds of gestures go a long way to making them feel part of our family and community, and to keep them interested. They are the future of the Guild.

As this term comes to an end, i find that i am looking forward more than ever to my path ahead. Know that i love you all. You are my family.

Wise words: "To those in the upper levels of the Guild, i would urge you to take an active interest in our newest members. I will try!

Those words pointed out by gege Beeflin resonated with me as well.
