Zunjing House, Early Night Cycle

It is well into the evening. I am enjoying hot mint tea and relaxed conversation with my Jiejie, House Companion Lysana, who has delivered me my new Phoenix Assistant, Cayce. We are just discussing some of the finer points of Araxes diplomacy, when I hear the screaming of startled acolytes downstairs.
We dash down, of course, and there are all my charges standing behind Cayce, facing the open front door of Zunjing.
"It was a monster! It ran in and carried off one of…

Wondermentalist 9-2-2017 Fall Grading "Discoveries"

Wondermentalist 9-2-2017 Fall Grading

"Discoveries"

Walking on a path,

it is there, but is it yours ?

Have courage, step up.

Seek and find.

Drawn on in creative momentum on the edge of ego depletion.

New discoveries and spirals of rediscovery sit within the heart and gaze at one another, unsure of where to fit within some greater picture.

As I stand in the sidelines of this…

Thoughts On My Third Term with the Guild

As my third term with the Guild comes to an end, i thought i would once again put down some thoughts about my experiences so far.  If you had read my previous blog entry, you will know that i was still learning to adjust.  This term was much better.  I felt quite at home, with established relationships and a higher level of confidence.

Because i was now a Flamingo acolyte, my focus turned to teaching.  As i have experience as an instructor in RL, this was not as scary a…

Zunjing House, very late night cycle

The young acolyte's eyes are very wide as she turns the corner into my office and catches sight of me sitting cross legged on the floor,  leaning against the wall of the station.

"Priestess,  are you ill?" she asks.

I smile at her warmly. "No,  meimei, I am well. Come down here and sit with me. I want you to hear something."

She joins me on the floor,  and I encourage her to put her ear against the wall,  as I…

Random Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Time As An Acolyte

So, I have a few thoughts on how to maximize your Guild experience as an acolyte. You already know to keep an eye on the Guild calendar for classes and events to attend, but here are a few more things you could do (all optional!) if you wanted to wring every last bit of goodness out of your time as an acolyte:

--Put in applications to have tea with Companions and Phoenixes who are practicing tea ceremony. You don't need an invitation, just go ahead and write up an app to have…

On Being Transgender: My Advantage as a Companion in Second Life

“…I Tiresias, though blind, throbbing between two lives,

Old man with wrinkled female breasts…”

T.S. Eliot, “The Waste Land”

“I’ve looked at life from both sides now

From up and down, and still somehow

It’s life’s illusions I recall…

On Being a Companion: One Woman's Reasons

My thoughts on being a companion are complex, and sometimes self-contradicting. For example, when someone in SL asks me why I chose to become a companion, I’m often tempted to say, “If you’ve never seen Firefly or Serenity, you wouldn’t understand. And if you have seen either of them, there’s no need for explanation.”

Still, much like vampires, gays, or lesbians(1), we in the Firefly ‘Verse are always looking to recruit new members. And so I offer my own reasons—reasons which are…

Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself...

I'm a man of wealth and taste. No, scratch that. I have NO sympathy for the devil. So let me start over.

I have spent most of my life exploring the 'Verse. I have spent time on Earth, where I learned of the existence of racism, xenophobia, and several other unpleasant social traits. I have always been a peacemaker, as are most of my race, but even the most dedicated diplomat knows when it is time to move on.

I have visited countless planetary systems, and have learned…

A First Step

"Joining the Companions was to [Teran] a dream and a last resort rolled into one, as he sought acceptance and sanctuary. To his delight and mine, the community has been immediately welcoming."

Being accepted into the Guild has felt almost like a last-minute rescue from the jaws of crippling failure. Eleven weeks into a fourteen week semester and I have finally found a…

Feeling the Love

I can not help but smile and be grateful that the stars aligned to introduce the guild to me at this transitional point in my life. I have never been hugged so much in my life. The energy changes in the room once it is filled with all of these beautiful people trying to spread love through the verse. It's like they force love down your throat whether you like it or not. …

Some Thoughts on my Time With the Guild

i am tyer Anbinder, currently a Peacock acolyte with Jichiren House, and have been with the Companion's Guild since September of last year. i thought i would provide some thoughts on my time with the Guild so far.

i came upon the Guild by accident. i was a recently released Owned sub of many years, seeking a fresh experience with my newfound freedom, and i happened upon Nanite Systems at Eisa, undergoing conversion to a gynoid unit. While exploring the NS store, i came upon the…

A New Adventure

Floating out in space is a giant alien artifact, left behind by an ancient race, which has been claimed by the Citadel Council and filled with the sentient species from all of the council worlds - Asari, Turians, Salarians, Volus, Humans, and many others. Merchants, ambassadors, diplomats, and visitors stream through the tubular space station, and give it new purpose.

It is an awe inspiring sight to see all those races coming together to build civilization through…

Guild Booth at the Sci-Fi Con!

We have a lovely booth at the Sci-Fi Con again this year!

The Sci-fi con is a great way for us to meet potential clients, to introduce ourselves to those interested in becoming acolytes, and to explore and get involved in new rp sims.

But no matter how good our promotional materials are, we get the best benefit from an actual presence at the booth.

So, please strongly consider spending some time at the booth when you can. If you can't schedule in advance, just come by…

Feminist Shrine

An outreach project of Xiaojie Companion House (though we are open to having Feminist Shrines throughout Second Life where they would be requested and helpful).. the Feminist Shrine has been established for about 6 months now. We have been celebrating some amazing women and their contributions to Second Life!

The current lady being celebrated is Strawberry Singh; a blogger, media activist, SL fashion enthusiast and teacher. Her relationship with Second Life is continually evolving and…

A new year, a new sandstorm

So we managed to fit in another open house before the new term. Which was a bit of an eye opener.

Those sandstorms - I was sure they'd stopped, and I was really looking forward to being able to chat and breath at the same time. So we were all ready and Penny had turned up along with a nice looking though extremely heavily armoured man, who did at least take his gun. And ammunition. And something else which was probably…

My deepest gratitude

I would like to express my gratitude to all in the Guild for their patience, kindness, and steadfast support of me throughout my time as an acolyte.

One learns, throughout life, to be skeptical of groups that want to claim they are a family. Employers particularly want to exploit that word to create loyalty they do not plan to return. So, when I was told the Guild was a family, I kept an eye out to see in what sense it might be true. As time passed, I was delighted to find real… Continue

Wondermentalist poem from Grading Day 12/17/2016 - By Grading Day Attendees

Here we all are at the beginning again.

Is this where I grew up? It's so the same and so different. In a way, it's quite unsettling. Have I changed so much? Or has it changed?

And have I changed for the better?

Like a scorpion in your shirt, or a rock in your shoe, I clash,

But brought home to the guild, passions ignite and fires dash.

Amongst priestesses, peacocks, phoenixes and hummingbirds,

My wild passions are risen, and my baser self is purged.

I…

Almost

Sweeter to savor even
than the moment of success:
the moment right before it
hand poised to take the prize
carrying all the momentum
flown forward now by the past
by the things you know
the aching mind and muscle
every word
every footstep that brought you right
to the edge of
to the brink of
right there so easy now
you could almost fall
as if over a cliff
into yourself tomorrow

The Jagged Prayer

I would fall on my knees,

if there were yet ground beneath me,

but all that solid illusion is dissolved,

broken and crumbled away.

Hear me, then,

feet firm on nothing.

My faith staggers and falters,

and my prayers can reach no farther than you.

This world turned abyss

seems emptied of divinity,

cold of all fires.

And the bleak mind proclaims

that the hand of…
